Fast Paced Few Weeks

Baptism - Oct 29, 1995

It’s been a week since my last blog post .. esh that almost sounds like the beginning of Confession!! Maybe I have Church in the forefront of my mind today (and for the past week), because Kyle had his Sacrament of Confirmation today πŸ˜€ It’s hard to believe that 13 years (almost 14 – June 29th is his bday), have gone by. But they have. I’ve gotten older (not necessarily matured) and have some gray hairs to prove as well as the extra weight :). This pic is of Kyle’s Baptism on the day he turned 4 months old. Probably my most favourite pic of him ever! Granted there are a few other’s that come close – a pic of him in a sleeper, his Communion pic where he wore his first suit carrying the host up at the beginning of service, and and and LOL … I won’t bore you with them … but I am doing a lot of looking back today and remembering some of his milestones (perfectly natural of course). I realized just after he turned 12, that he was taller than me (and I was wearing ball spikes which add 1 – 2″ to your height), and he shot up several inches in 2 moth period after that too!

HPIM2873.jpgHe went shopping with my dad to get his suit as I had to work and he picked this out by himself! That kids got a great sense of what colours work for him and what doesn’t. I had to snap a pic of him while his face was still clean and clothing unwrinkled πŸ™‚ He is a boy still afterall no matter how grown up he looks! And boy he cleans up pretty nice me thinks … granted I am biased – but I’m supposed to be.

HPIM2875.jpgMy Aunt Alexis agreed to be his sponsor for his Confirmation and her and Uncle Rick agreed to brave the border. My two cousins had to work, but that’s okay .. this was during the week for most people … (not me as this is my Saturday) and it is hard to get this time off – especially our repressed economy with the jobs being the way they are. As for his Confirmation itself, Bishop LaRoque led the service and performed the Sacrament for Kyle and the other Candidates. Normally it would be Bishop Fabro (I know I spelt that wrong), but he was unable to attend. The church was full with all the candidates and their guests attending. Granted the service was more contemporary, but with this being a youth-orientated event, it would be. It was still a wonderful service and a great joy to see Kyle Confirmed. Of course I took a million pictures, but am only putting a few here for you …

It’s been getting easier at work .. I’ve had to make a few changes to the routine that I started with. We use a lot of tools to diagnose issues with customer’s services. By the time I log into my desktop, then our tool desktop, and then all the tools that we use, a good 15 min has passed and I wasn’t answering calls at the start of my shift, but rather 10 mins in or so. I’ve found that I start the day feeling rushed as I’m logging into every tool and WAITING for it to load, so instead of leaving 30 mins before my shift starts, I’m getting to work 30 mins before my shift starts. That way I’m not so rushed and can start my day in a better state of mind.

Come the nite, my brain is fried and total mush.Β  Amazing how tiring it is concentrating and figure out and fix the weirdness (The Joys of Tech Support ;)) .. my latest battle cry (even at work) is, “Oh look!!! A shiny thing!”

Unread List Mail

After I get home from work, anything that requires some minimal amount of concentration from me gets avoided or put off until I can concentrate on it – I’m not sure I could tie my shoes at that point!Β  Sure there’s the AM, but I basically leave myself enough time to have coffee, eat, pack my lunch and get ready for work .. so that means my email is starting to pile up a wee bit .. I’m seriously thinking mass delete – but we’ll see ..

Work IS getting easier as I’ve learned to quickly fix issues and what needs to be done to fix them .. I just have to get my call time down a bit. I’m sure I’ll strike a balance soon .. I’ve not worked on my kitty quilt binding for the past few days .. nor is my back garden in yet (then again, I’ve not bought the plants either!!) maybe tomorrow (today?). I’m having to stay up wayyyyy past my new pumpkin time as Kyle needs to be up around 4:45am (25 mins from now – oh and Kyle’s up now (@@)).Β  Now I just have to call my dad. Kyle is going to be performing in a yearly concert at Canada’s Wonderland .. then they let them loose on the park LOL .. but he needs to be at the school (of course not his) by 5:15 as the bus leaves at 5:30am, we leave here around 5am :S .. so – Ky and my dad need to be up around 4:45 – and guess who’s doing the waking!! pfft .. i’m bloody tired, it’s been a long day – I just don’t hope I sleep to late after getting back from getting him on the bus.

So that’s about it – mostly all about Kyle LOL – but that’s as it should be today with all the milestones he’s coming up to … Confirmation, Grade 8 trip, 50 million other trips (we wonder if he even has any classes he has to attend now!), Grade 8 graduation, his bday and that’s all between now and the end of June! So it’ll be a wee bit chaotic and hectic here for a bit .. but hey .. that’s okay .. at least he’s enjoying every day with total abandon πŸ™‚

Crossed Off Items

Amazingly enough, I managed to get quite a bit of my goals accomplished this weekend! **kittyhappydance for me!! I didn’t get them all done, but that’s okay, the rest can be worked on by the guys over the next 5 days (uh huh we’ll see).. Yesterday I wrote

I start my weekend now (I’ve tues and wed for May for Kyle’s confirmation / rehearsal) and my goals are modest .. weed the front garden, plant my seeds, convince reg or kyle to dig up the back veggie garden and plant there, wash my fan quilt, stitch the binding on the kitty quilt and maybe get some laundry done if Kyle’s not taken over the washer again .. oh and try to avoid getting kidnapped for groceries and whatnot πŸ˜€

Out of that list, I did the front garden, planted my flower seeds, washed (and repaired) the fan quilt, took daylight pics of the fan quilt AND the spinner quilt, and have just over 1 side of binding on my kitty quilt to do. And during this time, managed to attend a meeting a Kyle’s school for his grade 8 trip and graduation and confirmation rehearsal – plus buy him dress shoes! So i’ good about the veggie garden not getting done, that can be dug up in the next few days .. I don’t have plants for it yet, so it wasn’t that critical for me to do.

HPIM2863.jpgNow the fan quilt needed a few repairs to it after I pulled it out of the wash .. I was really disappointed to see that some of my fans didn’t get under the twill tape totally .. Next time I do this pattern, I will use a shorter stitch – I’m thinking that that might do the trick there. I was pretty upset about this turning out this way … I had maybe 10 spots that I had to fix that were just like this – maybe more as I found 2 more spots after I thought I had them all done ..

HPIM2871.jpgTo fix this, I took a light blue thread and did some zigzag stitching where it had not been tucked under .. it rather upset me that I didn’t have any of the variegated left that I used for this, but the light blue works pretty good .. I had a light blue and a medium blue that I used depending on the blues where it had not gotten tucked under the tape … It’s not to noticeable, but of course I’ll always see this .. not everyone will as I matched it pretty close – but it’s still a bummer for me

HPIM2865.jpgAs for the label on this quilt, all I’m going to do for now is put down the pertinent information and leave a space for the name, I can write that in later .. and if ends up not being named, so be it ..

NYD – 1.1.09 – finished 5.16.09
Dedicated to Mary Jean Campaigne Lambie

It does look gorgeous tho, ooboo’s not withstanding. Nice and peaceful and serene .. the quilting just sets it off just right and I am proud of the work that I did do on it, I learned a new technique and learned a few other ‘should have dones’, so I’m pleased .. bummed but pleased .. yeah I know .. they shouldn’t go together but they do .. I didn’t expect this to be perfect, but I didn’t want to have to do the cheater fix to it already before I even got to use it ..

HPIM2867.jpgI finally got a daylight pic of Kyle’s Spinners and I’ve actually handed it over to him tonite πŸ˜€ He rather liked the idea that it’s done and HIS HIS HIS πŸ˜‰ .. it was also a ‘sneaky’ way for his sheets to be changed and his room to be picked up too .. course I wouldn’t hang a quilt over his head like that .. i would never do that πŸ˜‰

So I’ve had some triumphs this weekends and some let-downs too .. but I did learn from them and that is the important thing .. and my kitty quilt will be done in the next day or two as well ..

** starts to put her balls all in the air again ..

Still Time for Quilting!

It’s rather been a whirlwind and adjustment period for me. Getting used to working again .. and not just 8 hrs a day – but for 9 hrs (minus Β½ hr lunch). Doing the 4pm – 1am shift wasn’t to bad for me .. it seemed that I still got some ME time and quilting time. I’ve just finished my first week of my new shift – 12noon – 9pm. While you’d think that that was a great shift (and it is), there’s a period of adjustment to it for me .. For 2 years, I’ve basically gotten up when I wanted and slept when I wanted .. Doing the first shift of 4 – 1 wasn’t to bad, as I didn’t go to bed until 4am anyways .. I’d get up around 11 or so and have plenty of ME time and time before work to do whatever .. My body still is sort of awake at 3:30 – 4am right now, but I can’t really get up at 11 and expect to have enough coffee in me before I leave at 11:30 for 12 noon start time .. just leaves me feeling rushed and harassed. Ultimately my goal is to be up around 8 – 9am, so I can have those few hours to do whatever I want .. I’m still working on that πŸ˜€ But it is getting better .. It’s not a lot of time, but then again, I KNEW I wouldn’t have that time anyways – hence the quilting marathon I did in February and March.

When I’ve gotten home from work this week, I’ve not really had the focus to do a blog post, or even read much email .. and it’s all still there waiting for me to read it .. and my bloglines?? oi vay! we won’t go there!! But I will read them all .. eventually for now I’m just doing some mindless clicking on facebook and doing quick emails and txt messages .. I know ..exciting, eh? LOL

HPIM2860.jpgDuring the past weeks, I’ve taken the time to watch tv with Reg and I’ve gotten a few bindings done .. you know I’ve done the spinner quilt, and the other day I finished the big fan quilt .. It’s not been washed yet, but that’s tomorrow’s task. Here’s a quick peek of it with the binding sewn down tonite. I’m hoping to get some daylight pics of this and the spinner quilt since the weather is going (I pray) to be sunny! It is a wonderful feeling to get these quilts crossed off my list! I’ve not labeled this one as yet, and am not entirely sure what I’m going to call this one. This was the NYD mystery hosted on Planet Patchwork – and this was also the same day that I found out my aunt had been killed in car crash on her way to her bday dinner with friends the nite before … I’d like to dedicate this to her, but am still struggling with the name. This has become my favourite quilt. I love the way it quilted up, has a nice feel to it (even if it does weigh more than normal) – it’s just nice and peaceful .. I’m sure a name will come to me in time. But I can always do a label with the dates on it for now and add the name later.

HPIM2858.jpgMy next project is the binding on the kitty quilt .. sorry for the blechy pic, but this is just to give you and idea of what I’m doing.

Kyle is excited that I’m working on this quilt and he keeps giving me HUGE, BROAD hints about his bed quilt and wanting to have it done … he can’t wait until I get the rest of the threads snipped of his spinner quilt and the daylight pic done .. He says his current bed covering is just to heavy and is waiting impatiently for that one πŸ˜€ oh the one he’s waiting for is the Franken’quilt’

But work is going well, I’ve not lost any customers (that I’m aware of), altho one customer with a thick heavy accent asked me if I spoke english 😐 .. I was absolutely rendered speechless, and that’s not something that happens to me often .. he ended up in the wrong department and was not wiling to answer my questions about best to direct his call .. **sigh it IS rather laughable tho .. anywho, the job isn’t boring, it is almost more challenging than I would like in one day out of every 3, but I do like it well enough .. would I rather be quilting?? you betcha .. but that just makes the time I do grab for it all that more precious to me ..

Have a great week!

Spinners Done!

HPIM2855.jpgKittyhappydancing! I can call this one done! I am just so tickled that this one is done – I’m sure that Ky is going to be tickled too when he can use it tomorrow after it’s been washed ..

This went really quick on the binding .. altho the last 12″ took forever compared to the rest of the binding .. the label was the hard part .. I didn’t want to put it on a plain piece of muslin and didn’t want to go bother with doing freezer paper and printing .. so I just grabbed a scrap of material that was in the quilt itself and did that .. the other option would have been square in square and signed that part .. altho I was considering doing a small friendship star as a label like I did in the borders .. but I did want to get this done tonite!

HPIM2854.jpgNow comes the hard part .. submitting it for publication (!!) EEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKKKK I need to reread the submission guidelines, and get a really good daylight pic of it .. as all the ones that I have of this quilt are inside / nite shots ..

Well one down πŸ˜€ and boy does this feel GREAT!!!

Whiskers n Bindings

HPIM0523.jpgWhisker kisses. That’s what I woke up to today. I felt a tickling on my nose, cracked open my eyes to see a pair of yellow greeny eyes staring right into mine with a nose less than ΒΌ” away from my own. And these eyes didn’t move either .. so I gave a quick blow at the nose, and it vanished for a second .. just long enough to close my eyes, then I felt the tickling on my nose again .. more whisker kisses .. she’s not done that to me before .. least not so I’d wake up .. so with her being pretty persistent, I gave up and got up. Seemed the smart thing to do, as I couldn’t see her giving up anything soon – thus started my Saturday.

Gorgeous weather today altho a bit breezy, but still a respectable mid 60s – had the house to myself for about an hour, and enjoyed the peace before chaos central hit with reg, kyle and my dad .. I actually got to watch a Tiger’s game today and they WON WON WON!!!!!! It was the first game I’ve seen in about 2 weeks with being on the 4pm – 1am shift. one more week of this shift and then it changes .. altho I have no idea what one I’ll get, I put in for a mid day type shift … but have to wait until Wednesday to find out about that.

HPIM2851.jpgBut I did manage to put my day off to good use – I dug into my binding pile and pulled out kyle’s spinner quilt and started the binding .. I had a devil of a time finding thread to come close to the binding colour!! I had a spool put aside, but with all the red I’ve done lately, I’m guessing I used it .. oops :O .. but all’s good – found a deeper oxblood type red that is just about invisible against it and am using that .. I managed to get Β½ of the binding sewn down .. When Kyle saw that I was working on one of his quilts he was pretty pleased about it .. got a big grin on his face and said GREAT! Altho he wants his bed quilt done first .. but I told him that this is the one I want to get published, so he’ll just have to wait on his bed quilt .. he told me that the other one he has is just to heavy for right now .. so I told him, I would do what I could, BUT I wanted to get a quilt done for me between his quilts .. my poor 97 swap quilt is needing repair again, and I just want to put it away before it gets totally destroyed.

Tomorrow (as far as I know – this is Reg we’re talking about), I’ve nothing planned and should actually be able to get the rest of the binding down on this quilt .. wouldn’t that be sooo GREAT .. I still have to do the label, but will do labels for ALL the quilts waiting for me at the same time.

I feel SOOOOO GREAT to have done SOMETHING – ANYTHING quilty .. i was turning a nasty shade of green reading about all that everyone else is getting done πŸ™‚
