First Calls

As first calls went, they weren’t all that bad .. I was a nervous wreck for the first one – all nervous and shaky and HOT .. it was hot in there .. and me wearing a black monkey suit!! Monday is business dress day and since I’ve put the weight on, my other clothes’ don’t fit so well .. so I’m making due as it were.

The first call was from a man whose internet had gone down .. I did pretty good with it, ran all the tests I needed to and could, but couldn’t resolve his issue as his line was totally down. Solution .. dispatch a tech to his residence πŸ˜€ He was all happy that things were going so well and there was a solution in sight even if I couldn’t give him an answer tonite. THEN he asked me about hotspots and how did he use them?? ummm good question! .. LOLOLOL .. i tried to dig up the information but didn’t do so well with them .. I told them were he could find the hotspots and what he should do to make it work .. but until he was there and there was an issue, I couldn’t give him a more definite answer but hopefully gave him enough information to work with.

Another call was from a new customer that was having oh so many issues . I felt so sorry for him! He’s had line techs and premise techs out there all week – his services were going up and down like a yo-yo on steroids! Well I figured out his problem and got him up and running and he was just tickled pink about it .. his internet is the fastest it’s been, tvs are great with picture and sound .. alls good … but he had some funky numbers on his tests, so I scheduled a call back in the next day or two to ensure that his services are going great still .. I prolly spent a good 45 mins on that call .. the nicest man too – they were so frustrated and I KNOW how that feels!

So I did pretty good today .. tomorrow they expect me to take more calls which is okay .. I’ve done my baptism by fire and am not so nerve wracked about it anymore .. still nervous about finding all the information needed in a timely enough manner to give the customers a sense that they are being taken care of, but that will come in time πŸ˜€ And it felt good to get these people up and running or at least to get a solution on the boards for them ..

I am TIRED tho .. it’s been a long day and the last thing I want to do is sew tonite .. Hopefully tomorrow I’ll get the stuff done I need to and print the tissue out for the last quilt! I’m actually at the point where I’m going to be doing exclusively hand sewing for the bindings .. how cool is that! I’ll have some finishes now! WOOOHOOOOO

Oh I wanted to share some project links that I tripped over with you .. one is for a citrus air freshener Salt Packed Citrus Shells and the other is for a DIY Two-Toned Button Window Shade. This window shade has me curious as it’s just 2 pieces of fabric, some buttons, and tension rods .. these could be made up in no time! These will be on my todo list for sure .. especially if reg starts that nite job .. then I can do a black or darker fabric as the one side and still have a cheery colour on the side – AND they look like I could do our room, the cat cave and Kyle’s room in a day .. even the other small window in living room – I’ll have to let you know how it goes when I get a chance to do it – what am I saying .. course I will with pics too!

Hope ya’ll had a great day and I’m looking forward to day 2 on the phones .. after some great sleep

Tidbits …

I‘ve not managed to get much done this past week at all short of figuring out my borders for the kitty convergence. They still need to be printed on tissue paper, but getting home after midnite last week, I wasn’t so inclined to cut and print. :\ And of course I’m slow in when I get up, so that doesn’t see me bursting with energy to get it done. I WILL get the few sheets I need, cut and printed this week tho. It’s rather sad that I know it’s a matter of maybe 2 hours work and I’ve still not done it. **sigh lazy lazy lazy LOL

On the work front, I do have good news. The first 2 weeks of work were for training ending in a written test that I needed to get 90% on in order to pass and start on the next phase of my training. Friday was the day of my test and I was tickled to get my score back of 97% πŸ˜€ Yes it’s an open ‘book’ test as it were, but you still needed to KNOW how to find all the answers and know that they were the right ones. I missed 2 questions and funny enough, they were the same 2 questions that I missed on the previous tests. Ah well .. I passed and today I will start on my next leg of training which is called ‘nesting’. For the next 5 days I will be paired with a senior agent and will be listening to their calls for tech support. We’ll be “Y-Jacked” together, meaning both plugged into one phone, and I’ll be able to listen to him/her take the calls. While listening, I’m hoping to be able to have a puter next to them so that I can search and do the rest of the call while they do. Maybe with luck I’ll feel confident enough to actually take a call today .. I was told during training that the sooner you take a call, the faster you adapt and the better you do – so I’m hoping to try one call today. We’ll have to see how that goes. So this week, I work 4pm – 1am, Monday to Friday. This is likely my last weekend off – we’ll have to see how it goes. Kyle has his confirmation in May, and I need to have that nite off, so I just might see if I can schedule my weekends to be Tues and Wed for May. And his grade 8 graduation is June 22nd, so to ensure that I get that nite off, I might have to schedule that I have tues and another nite off in June.

HPIM2845.jpgI did get a wonderful surprise from Aune in Finland on Friday. I had sent her some tissue paper as she wasn’t sure what it was, and she decided to send me some of her gorgeous hand and sun dyed fabrics. I was totally stunned to receive such gorgeous fabrics .. I never expected this! The one on the bottom right is sun dyed and had salt used on it as well. The one on the bottom left was one that used a technique called pushing up. Aren’t they just gorgeous! And what a nice feel they have .. I think I might use these in a convergence quilt .. they do see well suited for it πŸ˜€ Aune thank you very much again for the gorgeous fabrics. Like I mentioned before, these are too dear for tissue paper.

HPIM2847.jpgHPIM2848.jpgSpeaking of fabric, I ordered some a while ago and I hadn’t shared the with you as yet. I got these on sale from the spiders web and just feel in love with the batiks. I’ve no clue what I’ll be doing with them, but I’m sure something will occur to me. I was looking or some background / blenders when I tripped over the batiks, and they were a good price ,so how I could i resist πŸ˜‰ The piece with LOVE on it and the metallic is an FQ .. and I’ve no clue what I’ll be doing with that one. I just liked it and I thought it would be a cute piece to have. Of course since I have it .. nothing is jumping up and biting me on the nose at all. BUT, I do know that it will speak to me when the time is right. It’s really out of my normal buying pattern. I can honestly say I’ve nothing in my stash that is even remotely like that! I was looking for more oranges, but there wasn’t any there on sale.

HPIM2842.jpgOf course Pixel isn’t one to stand by while other excitement is going on in the house and be ignored! It finally got warm enough here that we opened the windows. Boy did that feel GREAT .. having fresh air thru the house – it’s almost like a cure all tonic! Well Reg went and opened Kyle’s bedroom window, BUT he forgot that the screen is only on one side. So he opened the side with NO screen. And Pix being Pix .. said thankyouverymuch and out he went. Course I didn’t know this .. I was watching something on tv getting harassed by Shadow, when I was starting to wonder WHERE is Pix?? It’s not like him to not be here and try to hog attention all for himself from Shad. I was looking around and wondering just where he was. Reg was talking to me and I interrupted him because I thought I heard something and asked him to turn down the tv. I listened again, and heard it .. MROW .. I look at the front door, look at reg and jump out of my seat and send poor Shad flying … I open the front door and there’s Pix, on the front porch, nattering away about being let in right NOW! Let me tell you, the first thought was Thank God that he didn’t run into the HUGE male next door (prolly 25 lbs), Pix, while a tough cookie, is no match for that cat .. specially since he doesn’t have front claws. He was likely gone in total 30 minutes. Long enough that I was wondering where he was, but he came back. Needless to say, we are carefully watching which way the window opens after THAT! Doesn’t he look pleased with himself the BRAT! LOL

My Binding Pile

I started to wonder exactly just how many quilts I’ve moved to my binding pile since January 1, 2009. I know I did a small hiatus in January for a bit when I was on a knit frenzy which lasted about 3 weeks or so?? I was still just puttering about with my WIP pile until I was interviewed in mid February for a job that was going to be full time hours. Then I really kicked it into high gear. So I went thru my Binding Pile to see just what I’ve finished in these past weeks – Let’s call it from mid February till now I guess .. granted I’ve not done much the past week since I was actually at work, but let’s include it for fun … Under each picture is the quilt name and the date it was officially moved to the binding pile.

BigFan - 4.19.09

Here’s a few other projects that I’ve started in this same time frame and I thought they should be included as well.

  • My 1800 quilt is waiting for the binding and to hand sew the backing fabric down the from quilt as you go method
  • ArtIllusion is being entered into a contest, so this sits as is
  • Kitty Convergence is just waiting for me to deal with the border math quilt repeats

ArtIllusion - 4.8.09

Kitty Convergence - 4.15.09

I guess I was really busy between 2.12.09 and 4.15.09. WOW .. I’m rather amazed at what I’ve managed to get done in that time frame. I knew I had gotten a few done, but this rather boggles the mind. All this in hmmm 1 … 2… 3… **GASP!! 9 weeks (!!) **Thud (that’s the sound of me passing out and hitting the floor!)

Heh .. to bad THIS wasn’t my full time job! I would be in pure heaven! You know .. with the exception of Kyle’s Spinner and the 1800 quilt, all these were quilted with the tissue paper method. Think I might have perfected it by now?? LOL

Case128 – Big Fan – Binding Pile!

HPIM2840.jpgThis is actually a horrible pic, but you can get the gist of how it looks with the binding on πŸ˜€ And daylight was a relative term today with it being rainy and gloomy .. BLECH.Β  So a good daylight pic was just not going to be possible today .. or until Wednesday when it says it’ll be sunny again.Β  I think that this one is going to be my favourite out of all the ones that I’ve completed in the past 6 weeks.Β  Heh .. not even sure I can recall all that I’ve finished in this time frame – I would have to go back over my blog entries and sift thru the binding pile LOL

My goal this weekend was to do both the bigfan and the kitty convergence.Β  One of two not’s bad and I’m good with it.Β  I’m rather shying away from the math – it’ll be easy, I’m sure .. but there’s always the thing that it won’t be that niggles at the back of your brain.Β  And I’m not sure I want to exactly deal with that .. Would rather just bask in the good feeling of where I’m at with this quilt πŸ˜€Β  AND the kitty convergence hasn’t been waiting months for me to get back to it.Β  It can hold it’s kitties for a bit LOL

My allergies were beating me up pretty severe when I got up and I’m rather ‘not there’ – even now .. but we’ll see, I might get motivated to do it .. then it’s a matter of printing them out and quilting away .. not a lot of time needed as these are just 3″ borders I think and it’s just a bitty wall quilt. hmmm I might even get this one day during the week .. we’ll have to see what I’m inclined to do after work .. prolly not much with the rain being here that long .. Yesterday was such a teaser day with what we are facing now **sigh … rain rain go away .. don’t bother to come back another day!

Quilty Stuff – YIPPEE

It feels so great to have some quilty stuff done πŸ˜€ I’ve missed spending the time doing it this week. I set a goal for myself today that was quasi reachable. Granted if I hadn’t spoken with my uncle on the phone for almost 1 Β½ hrs I could have done it, but I do really enjoy talking to him, so I don’t mind reaching the goal I had set for myself.

HPIM2836.jpg

Think she missed me??

My goal was to move the bigfan quilt to the binding pile. It will make it there this weekend without a doubt! I finished shredding all the tissue off it tonite and all that needs to be done is cut the binding and attach it. As you can see the Princess Snoopervisor (Or furry mafia as a Sue in NZ calls them) decided that she was going to ‘help’. Don’t you just love the indignant look I’m getting from her .. like .. HEY .. i’m RIGHT here .. PET ME! LOL .. Yes this is the same cat that decided to hunt a centipede that was behind my head on the wall. I did manage to pick around her for a bit and then I had to convince her that it was time to move … that took a bit of coercion, as when she wants to be in your lap, she’s IN your lap .. regardless of you moving her .. she just jumps right back up. Oh see that white grocery sack next to me on the couch .. well that was the same sack that went flying and created a ticker tape parade in my living room on Sunday nite. LMBO!!!!!!

HPIM2838.jpgI am just tickled by the way that this turned out! You can see the quilting even with using a flash. This is going to take some truly stunning daylight pics tomorrow πŸ˜€ I can’t wait to see how great this is going to look in the daylight. I’m really excited about this quilt being almost done! Yes I know, I’m excited about all of them .. but this one – there’s just something about it that sings to me .. not just talks ..but sings ..

After I get this done, I’ll work on the math for the borders on the kitty convergence and maybe get that one going too .. we’ll have to see as that one is going to take some meticulous shredding to get all the tissue off.

I finally managed to lose some weight this week.Β  I’ve been fluctuating up and down a pound or two for the past month .. matter of fact it was a 4lb difference from last nite to tonite .. I was just soooo tickled to see that and it gives me encouragement that I’m doing the right thing and to stick with it!Β  Part of it I’m sure is eating more often and drinking more water ..

On tipnut.com they published an article with links for knittable and crochetable swiffer covers with a recommendation to use acrylic yarn .. I’ve a TON of one skeins and these would be perfect me thinks .. The one pictured on this page is crocheted, but there are links for knittable ones .. I’ve just not checked them out yet – but wanted to share.Β  Reusable & Reversible Swiffer Sock

I hope everyone is having gorgeous weather – we are having .. I know I should have done some yard work, but my quilts were calling πŸ˜€

This week

It was my hope to do this post earlier, but I didn’t get around to it. Some of you are aware that I started my new job on Monday and are wondering how it’s going and how I’m doing with it. Especially after the adventure of Shadow and the centipede on Sunday nite .. **shudder (and no, I’ve not seen it again since, altho reg told me that Kyle killed one .. GOOD BOY!!!!)

The hardest part of going back to work for me was having to find a monkey suit to wear that fits. It’s been over 5 years since I had to wear business dress and business casual – My last job allowed me to wear jeans and the like .. and I am certainly NOT the size I was 5 years ago+ – heh .. But with various purchases in clothes over the past bit, I’ve been able to cadge together some dress / casual pants for work. Shirts / tops aren’t a problem.

Monday was orientation day and that was from 9 – 5. They could have gotten our orientation done easily in 4 hours .. but it seemed that everyone that came to speak to us, was late that day, and didn’t use all the time that was scheduled for them .. so there was a LOT of sitting and waiting. But the good thing is, all my HR paperwork is done (that took 1 Β½ hrs), security card is on the way, employee badge is on the way, I’m signed up for my apprenticeship for IT Support / Call Center Agent, all my access to the system work and my biometrics works!! We use biometrics to get into our areas – essentially you enter in part of your employee number and then you have your finger scanned at the doors. rather neat me thinks .. never had a finger print scanning done for access πŸ˜€ We didn’t have to stay until 5 on Monday .. I was already beyond brain dead from all the waiting, but the down time enabled myself and my fellow employees to get to know each other a bit and chatter. The day was fairly nice so we did some walking around downtown. Yes we had that much time!

We ended up having to come in at 1:30 on Tuesday to finish our registrations for the apprenticeship program, but were able to leave at 9:30 .. that was another long day and I was rather bored to brain mush .. It moved slowly as not everyone’s system access worked … so it was a day to iron out the kinks and do what we can.

Wednesday on was our regular time of 3:30 – 11:30 and these days went better .. we got into our training more and actually did some role playing for various scenarios that we might encounter – the material is rather dry and plods a bit – our trainer does do a great job and is engaging – but there’s only so much you can do when you are all reading off the same slide show LOL … there’s a nice friendly atmosphere in our training room .. 25 guys and 5 girls there!! I was like :O .. I expected there to be more woman as this is call center training and women are more likely to handle an irate customer better than men .. not that this is a rule of thumb, but women generally have the role of peace keeper and defuser. BUT there is also the technical aspect and you needed to pass a test in order to qualify for hire into this department. That could be the difference maker there .. Now don’t get upset with me and say I’m being sexist .. but more women tend to let the men do the technical stuff if they have a choice .. granted in our house, it’s me that does the puter issues, reg does the video stuff (games, tv, surround sound system etc)

It was really hot in there yesterday .. can you imagine 30 ppl in a room with all those computers on .. even with the windows open .. it just gets HOT. it’s not so bad as I was dressed for it yesterday (Thank God!) As far as the training goes, some of this is going over what I already know as I did Customer service for 3 years .. granted I had no formal training in, but the premise is still the same .. soon as we get our other IDs we’ll be hitting more into the technical aspects of our training and things should get more interesting as it’s learning something I don’t know. Hopefully, we’ll get those today.

I am going to enjoy my last week in the training room as I know that things will get interesting after that. We have a week after our training (and when we pass our testing) then we our paired with another agent for further training on the floor. After that I will be on my own and things will get interesting LOL So it’s rather a vacation a bit for me, boring as hell .. but what can you do .. I’m sure that will end soon enough.

I’ve not done anything quilty wise since monday nite, but plan to do some stuff this weekend . I was content to spend the time with reg and share my day with him .. doing some stuff after work shouldn’t be a problem in time πŸ˜€
