Dishcloth Finishes

Yesterday I opted to just have a quiet day with the family. And of course I catnapped most of the morning and early afternoon :). I grabbed some daylight shots of the lattice hearts, and started another and finished that too!

Topsy Turvy hearts

This is the one I finished last nite and got daylight shots of today. I wish it was wider than it is – could really use another column of hearts, but it is a really pretty dishcloth and just love the detail in it.

Quilting 1800 ways …

After consciously stalling for a good week, I finally got the quilting done on my 1800 quilt .. just 2 bloody sections is all I needed to do .. now I did have some valid stall reasons – which presented themselves during the freemotion part – but it was either put on my big girl pants and deal with it, or this would never get finished!

Prolly didn’t help that I was in a mood today .. can’t tell you why, but I was NOT a happy camper – spent all day glowering and grumbling like a bear with a sore tooth .. who had her hibernation interrupted .. betcha want to spend a day with me when I’m like that, eh? So of course being in said mood, nothing I did, I liked .. BUT, I was going to get this quilting done if I had to kill someone to do it!

HPIM2488.jpgOne of my valid stall reasons, was that I no longer had the flow for the quilting for this .. let’s see, the last time I worked on this (which is the last blog post on this), was back on the 27th of Sept with this post, no pics on that one, but I did put the one section totally together on the 24th of Sept with this post. So needless to say, it’s been a bit .. I did parts of this quilt with a free motion design – no stencils, markings, etc .. so the groove for it was definitely gone! Now that I’m no longer ready to rip someone’s head off, it doesn’t look all that bad .. will the average person / quilter notice? Maybe – maybe not. I know I will .. but guess what – it’s my quilt and of course I’m going to notice it. Now if someone feels so bloody compelled to go into my bedroom and flip my bedquilt over, then they have some other issues that need to be dealt with that have nothing to do with me and I’m going to leave that at that!

HPIM2489.jpgMy mood improved just as mysteriously as it declined earlier tonite .. no clue why, just did .. am I going to delve for that answer .. nope .. just accept it and run with it .. I don’t get like that very often at all .. but when I do, I’m miserable and I’m sure my family is wishing they were elsewhere. Cats and dog included .. least the cats can do hide under tables or something .. poor Orion has no choice being 70lbs and highly visible :\ But I did get another dishcloth finished tonite while I spent some time with Reg after his basketball tourney .. This is supposed to be sage green, but didn’t use a flash to try and show the pretty lattice pattern .. I had some serious counting issues with this and actually had to resort to using stitch markers and my fingers and toes … but this is counted as a finish .. I’ll get a daylight picture of it tomorrow .. it is really pretty.

HPIM2491.jpgI know I said I got all the 1800 quilt sections done and I did .. see them all there all waiting so nicely for me tomorrow!! the folded ones were the ones that were done last fall, and the two open were done today.! All I need to do is trim my edges, join the sections, figure out what I’ll do with the borders and then attach the binding .. well trim those edges after it’s all together of course .. but I can’t believe it! FINALLY!!! I’ll have two quilts in the the “sew down the binding” pile .. how cool is THAT!??!

It will be nice to cross this off my list and call it done .. I think I’ll get one more quilted up, then do a binding marathon .. we’ll have to see .. Kyle is waiting so patiently to have his binding finished off.. maybe tomorrow after this is all sectioned up ..

How did everyone else do today?

Daylight pic

Daylight is so much better for showing colours and details in items. Flashes are great, but they just washed out the pretty details in the yarn and pattern.

HPIM2485.jpgBut as promised in yesterday’s post – A finished daylight pic of Feb KAL v1. To be added to my kitchen weaponry πŸ˜€

I’m 75% thru the V2 of feb KAL .. this one has a lot of detail and I’m finding I’m having to use stitch markers and crossing off stitches to keep my place .. I normally don’t have this problem and am unsure why this time, but I would rather take the extra time to put in the markers, count my stitches, recount my stitches than to have to frog again and again and again .. yup – I’ve done this a few times.

February Kal V1

Version 1 you say??? Yup, I’ve picked a few dishcloths to do for my February KAL .. the subject is hearts … and of course when I can’t decide, I just do them all .. and well – these I can knit up in a nite or less .. so I imagine I’ll have a ton of hearts for my feb KAL ..

HPIM2482.jpgFirst one is this dishcloth (it has a matching dishtowel too – which I may or may not get / do) called “Two Hearts as One” Dischloth. Made with Lily sugar n cream potpurri – the as I used in my snowflake dishcloth.

This is a shot with incandescent light (tungsten) with no flash .. otherwise it just overpowers the pattern and you can’t see it .. I’ll take some better pictures in daylight tomorrow

The next one is a lattice heart and I’ll do that in sage green .. more a match to my kitchen me thinks πŸ™‚

Tomorrow I have the house to myself and my intention AND plan is to get moving on my 1800 quilt .. I would love to call that finished .. maybe I’m just to nervous about having the freemotion look to radically different and I’m stalling .. heh .. I’m even working up headband patterns in my head and a dishcloth pattern in my head to avoid this me thinks .. well tomorrow I do this!!

More Knitting

I seem to be doing more knitting lately than fabric / quilt related. I seem to be in tv mode to want to watch tv and do hand work and well I can’t bring my machine and do my stitching / quilting in the living room … to much of a hassle to move it all, soooo more knitting. Also Reg’s been home lately due to lack of snow and the fact that he can’t run practices during exams – so that sets me off my stride a wee bit as he’s a lighter sleeper than normal (if that’s possible (!!)). So no quilting since I did my January Initial Challenge blocks .. **sigh But there is a silver lining – he’s running a basketball tourney again this weekend AND taking kyle to work in the store too πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ I’ll be quilting later

HPIM2475.jpgWhat I have done in the past few days is a matching headband for my shadow mittens. The designer, Tara, sent me over what I needed to do this in worsted weight as the original was for bulky / chunky weight. I got this hpim24741worked up in just a few hours, and voila – matching ear warmer to go with my shadow mittens :D. I think that they look really cool together .. altho I do have an idea perking in the back of my mind for another earwarmer – actually two ..I have 3 more skeins of this fabric and the earwarmers take up such a small amount of yarn, that’s it not even really worth mentioning! We’ll just have to see what I can come up with! HPIM2476.jpg

For my one skein group, we are doing hearts for February .. there are a TON of heart patterns on ravelry – everything from dishcloths, towels, mug cozies, coasters, bookmarks, you name it! I’ve queued up several to do as these projects will knit up very quickly! First one, is a two heart dishcloth, and there is a matching towel for this as well πŸ™‚ – sorry it’s not in pink or red. The whole purpose of me joining one skein kal, was to get rid of my onsie twosie balls of yarn .. NOT add to it … so I’m treating these projects as stash busters.

It’s quiet in the house for now .. no clue how long that will last, but I am sincerely hoping that it lasts long enough for me to get some actual quilting done on my 1800s quilt! I would love to call that one finished! I won’t really be able to take pics until spring-like weather tho. This is a king-sized quilt, and I really don’t have a place to hang it from that won’t involve bumps underneath it from porch / deck railings. My dad has a sunroof at his house and I am going to hang it from the gutters there for a pic. No deck or anything that will wreck the flow of the quilt while hanging πŸ™‚ Lord knows, when I’ll get a pic of it finished.

Shadow Mittens

HPIM2472.jpgWell I got my mittens done for my January KAL .. Now that felt really good to get that done! And they turned out so well too! The cable pattern didn’t show up well in the first pics I took of the first mitten as it wasn’t daytime light. I remembered to get them in daylight the next day and you can really see the cable pattern in these pics. These pics do do these mittens justice! I love the way the yarn pattern worked out in both mittens .. I didn’t plan it either – just worked out that way.

I even got so motivated after I did these that I wrote up the pattern! I tripled checked it and sure hope I am right – but it has been uploaded and added to the Ravelry Library – here.

hpim2473.jpgIf you aren’t on Ravelry, you can access this pattern thanx to Tracy, she’s created a pattern or whatever blog, Fiberbabblesays over on blogger and offered me guest posting privileges for whatever I wanted to put there. So, I took her up on this and posted the Shadow Mittens on her pattern blog – How cool is that! Thank you Tracy!! I’ve also linked a a pdf file over there as well ..that is uploaded to my server and it has some flaky issues at times. So, if you can’t download it, try again later. Now I do have an account at docstoc.com – they only offer embedded coding for the file itself, BUT you **MAY / MIGHT** be able to access this from my profile link – I’m not totally sure if you have to be a member (It’s free btw) or not, but it is worth a try.

Tracy discovered how you can have the link emailed to you without having to sign up for docstoc.

From docstoc, I clicked on the “email” button.Β  I put my email address in.Β  When I received the email,Β  I clicked on the link in the email and was taken to the doc, where I could click “download” and it worked – without me signing in.Β  So if someone wants the pdf and they don’t want to register at docstoc, you can click the email button and they’ll be able to get it anonymously.

How exciting and cool is THIS!! I’ve done my first knitting pattern and uploaded it too!!!

Tara from tara’s knits gave me a quick conversion for her earwarmer pattern from bulky to aran / worsted weight so I can have matching earwarmers for this! I’ll be working on this soon too! Who knows .. maybe I’ll find a scarf pattern I really like too πŸ˜‰ I should have more than enough of this yarn to do all that as the mittens took less than 1 skein of dazzleaire yarn – which is 3Β½ oz – no band on this yarn, so I’m not entirely sure here ..sorry
